“A dream is a wish your heart makes” is a very well known lyrics from Disney’s Cinderella . A dream or goal is something that pushes a person to accomplish or to do something. For instance, if someone had the dream to become a doctor, no matter the circumstance they will push through to accomplish what they want. Throughout the books and play, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald , and Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals, the characteristics needed to achieve their dreams or goals. To accomplish a goal or dream, one must use determination, commitment, and must be adamant. First, determination is a great quality to have to achieve your goals and dreams. Melba, from Warriors Don’t Cry, showed that determination is a necessary quality needed to fulfill one’s dream. Determination is described as a firmness of purpose; a resoluteness. Melba Pattillo was one of the nine students chosen to segregate into an all white high school. She left her old life behind for the chance of equality that she was determined to get. During her time in school, Melba faced multiple predicaments. For instance, a white student spit on her face, and she didn 't know what to do so she scrambled away with fear (Beals 75). After being in that situation, Melba came up with a military like plan. Her plan is as follows, “...
