Lastly, the economic benefits that undocumented immigrants bring to the economy and how they contribute to society as a whole should also be considered in the overall analysis of immigration and undocumented immigrants as a whole. Firstly, it should be noted that undocumented immigrants are known for their work ethic, integrity, and drive (Enriquez 947). Therefore it is no surprise that according to the U.S. Department of Labor and the Small Business Administration that 30 percent of business starters or entrepreneurs are immigrants and 18 percent of all small business owners are immigrants. According to an article by Jason Furman, when immigrants start a business that in turn creates more jobs for American workers and it is estimated that, “immigrants employed an estimated 4.7 million people in 2007, and according to the latest estimates, these small businesses generated more than $776 billion annually”(Furman and Gray). Undocumented immigrants are generally the ones involved in the more strenuous jobs that most native born Americans would prefer to stay away from, but not only are the immigrants executing these demanding tasks but these industries rely heavily on immigrant workers to succeed or at least continue to function.
