Pros and Cons of Abortion What is the definition of abortion? Abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy or the killing of a human being. The debate about abortion is set between two contenders: Pro-Choice and Pro-Life. Pro-Choice are the group of people who believe that the mother has a choice when it comes to abortion but it does not mean they are pro-abortion. Pro-Life are the group of people who believe that the fetus should have a chance of living and value that human life. There are many key factors that may lead to abortion such as rape, incest, or teen pregnancy. Yet, there are many reasons why certain people believe that abortion shouldn’t be an option. The stance from different individuals often effect the person as well such as the person’s beliefs. An important impact would be the Roe vs. Wade case relating to the choice of abortion. In 1973, the United States Supreme court made an important decision stating that any women could have the right to privacy and right to have an abortion within the first couple months of pregnancy. In an article called, The Story Told by 40 year of Abortion Statistics, philosopher Randall K. O’Bannon notes that abortion rates have increased after Roe vs. Wade was established. He claims “the numbers increased in the wake of Roe, going from 744;600 in that first year after Roe and more than doubling before the decade ended, reaching 1,497,700 by 1979.” Throughout the essay, I will discuss the stances, pros, and cons of…
