THE FIVE DYSFUNCTIONS OF A TEAM This can be defined as the procedures that must be followed in order to create a successful and excellent team. Lencioni (2002). The five dysfunctions of a team are firstly, the absence of trust: When there is a lack of trust in a team, it makes it difficult for members to open up to one another, they refuse to become weak in front of one another. It is when team members hesitate to help or ask for help in carrying out their task. It is when they avoid spending time together. Secondly, Fear of conflict: Teams that are afraid to trust in one another won’t be able to conflict ideologically. They will continue guarding their comment to one another. Teams in this instant make things political and personal. Thirdly: Lack of commitments: Being afraid to openly disagree with one another leads teams to care less about commitment and this in turn affects performance. Failure to commit creates ambiguity among the team, it leads to lack of commitment. Lencioni (2002).
